Lucky, Ayla and Tearmark

Lucky, Ayla and Tearmark have been joined by some new neighbours in the form of two 15 month old cheetah cubs called Tessa and Tosca. The cubs were brought to us from Omaruru where they had been raised by a lady who has sadly experienced poor health lately and can no longer take care of them.

Tessa and Tosca have now moved into Shakira and Ombeli's old camp, next to Lucky, Ayla and Tearmark. The move was interesting to watch as the cats scoped out what was taking all the attention away from them. The 3 cheetahs stalked the fence line hissing at the newbies, making sure they knew who's territory this was. Tessa, the female, was very shy and retreated to the back of the enclosure, whereas Tosca, the male, was very bold and inquisitive and came up to the fence line to equally "suss" out his new neighbours.

However, the 3 cubs won't be in their camp for much longer as we have exciting plans to release Ayla and Tearmark this year and thanks to all our donors and fundraisers, we've raised all the funds needed to build a new, large camp for Lucky to live in. As Lucky can never be released, it is thought that one day, Tessa and Tosca might join her in the permanent camp so they can benefit from her "mothering" role as she did with Ayla and Tearmark, before they too are released when they are older.
