Lucky, Ayla and Tearmark - May 2010

There was sad news at N/a’an ku sê this month as our little cheetah cub Whitetail, who lives with Lucky, Ayla and Tearmark, sadly passed away. It was a tragic accident which has deeply saddened us all here as he will be greatly missed.

Whitetail had the unusual habit of frequently licking the sand in his camp, which we have deduced become poisoned after the rain washed the soil and sand down from another area where insect poison had been laid. We had been assured the poison was harmless to humans and animals so are devastated at this tragedy.

Samira who lives in the neighbouring camp to the three cubs, has now been moved down to a new camp by the volunteers area so Lucky, Ayla and Tearmark’s camp has been opened up to include the space Samira had. Now double the size, the three are marking out their territory in the new area but mainly staying in their usual side of the camp, which is to be expected until they feel comfortable enough with their new space.

We’re still fundraising so we can build them a permanent camp and have already secured part-sponsorship from one Namibian company. If you or anyone you know might be interested in donating towards the cubs' camp, please email donationsnaankuse@iway.na.
