Eight cheetah cubs - March 2010

Our gorgeous eight cheetah cubs are still enjoying their new home at N/a’an ku sê and look forward to their daily visit from us. When the truck pulls up for feeding, all eight cheetahs (plus Chiquita and Vasco) dash to the fence eager for their food and then run away as fast as lightening. They have a huge enclosure and do an extremely good job of hiding themselves so feeding time is a real treat for us as much as it is for them!

In our last update, we mentioned how fast the cubs are growing up and will soon be strong enough to survive on their own in the wild. We’ve now found a brilliant spot in NamibRand for three of the cubs and will do a “soft” release soon. We will build an enclosure where they will spend two or three months getting used to the area; working out where the game isand water etc after which they will be released fully. We’re still looking for homes for the five other cubs but hopefully it won’t be too long before all the release plans are in place.

We still need to raise the funds for the radio collars for the cubs release so please email donationsnaankuse@iway.na if you would like to sponsor a collar or help us fundraise.
