Three cheetah update - September 2010

The group of three cheetahs released on NamibRand earlier this year are doing really well. Although the group split up after the release, the research team in the south has managed to follow the two collared individuals.

The female is now on farmland 40km outside the reserve. She has been spotted feeding on a young Kudu, which proved her ability to hunt and she seemed to be in perfect condition.

The other male cheetah has got a GPS collar and only because of this we were able to follow his exciting excursion through the Namib Desert, even though we followed only on GoogleEarth! After walking 40km southwards into the dunes he turned around to stay a week in the reserve again, only to then travel for 4 weeks through the driest parts of Namibia, along Sossusvlei, into the Namib Desert. In mid September he crossed the borders of NamibRand again and the research team will try to get a closer look as soon as possible. We will keep you posted.
